Wednesday July 30, 2003
In a move that shocked Connecticut poker players, The Mohegan Sun Casino announced that it was closing its poker room on September 2nd. Mitchell Etess, executive vice president of marketing, said Tuesday that the poker market was not growing enough to justify keeping the room open. This statement surprised poker players who have seen an increase in the number of players in the recent months. Weekend poker tournaments have been selling out every week. The Las Vegas Sun reported that the space would be used for more slot machines.
