Bill sponsor Assemblyman Jeff Van Drew, D-Cape May, said he thought there was less than a 50 percent chance sports betting would ever come to the state's gambling resort, but that an effort should be made due to increased gaming competition. Van Drew said sports gambling would be a powerful boost to Atlantic City, which could be hurt by the slot machines being placed at racetracks in neighboring states. "As competition grows it is important, it is paramount that we ensure the revenue stream continues to be there," Van Drew said. Read more from Newsday.com.

So…… whatever happened to this bill?
If Corzine was “smart” he would approve and back this bill, rather then commit political suicide by doubling the tolls every 4 years or so.. which is why everyone believes this state is so corrupt to begin with.
To quote Al Pacino in possibly the worst movie ever (two for the money), “Sports betting is a multi-billion dollar industry”… So, why not allow it in the casino’s and eliminate the state debt that way, rather than kicking everyone below the belt raising the state tolls?
