36th World Series of Poker Begins
For the first time in the history of the WSOP the majority of the action will not be taking place downtown. Harrahs Entertainment who purchased the event when Binion's Horseshoe closed due to bankruptcy will move the WSOP to the RIO Hotel and Casino. The final two days of the World Championship event will run at Binion's, which hosted the World Series of Poker for the tournament's previous 35 years. Harrah's agreed to have the WSOP final two days downtown in order to participate in Las Vegas' centennial celebration.
With the popularity of Poker reaching new heights, this years final event will be another record breaking event. Last year, a record field of 2,567 players entered the final event and this yerr the prediction is for 6,600 players or more.
