Tuesday July 18, 2006
After a 24 year drought, Chip Reese won his third WSOP Tournament bracelet and the $1.78 million dollar first prize. His last championship, in 1982, was worth $92,500. Saturdays first place payout was the highest in the history of the WSOP in an event other than the championship final tournament. Reese beat out poker pro Andy Bloch who collected $1.03 million for second place.
The three-day HORSE tournament, which had a record buy-in of $50,000 per player and attracted 143 players, consisted of five different poker games that rotated every 40 minutes, with the stakes increasing roughly every three hours. The games for HORSE are: Holdem, Omaha, Razz, Stud and Stud Eight or Better or Hi/Lo.
