Seven Poker Pros Suing WPT
Friday July 21, 2006
Seven professional poker players planned to file an antitrust suit against WPT Enterprises Inc., operator of the World Poker Tour, over the use of their likeness and their access to play in televised tournaments.
The players, which include Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, Howard "The Professor" Lederer, , and World Series champs Joseph Hachem and Greg Raymer, argued that WPTE made them waive lucrative rights to use their images and names to promote products and video games before they could enter WPT poker tournaments. Their suit is seeking damages and to nullify contracts they signed before entering WPT events.

Comments
I support the plaintiffs in this matter, as I believe that the waiver the WPT insists that players must sign before participating in any WPT event is far too broad & all inclusive.
To require that anyone give up the right to their images & names in ‘perpetuity’ is unreasonable.
