Second Online Betting Executive Arrested

Sunday September 10, 2006
The United States has arrested a second Internet gaming executive in a crackdown on illegal internet sports betting. Peter Dicks the non-executive chairman of London-based online bookmaker Sportingbet.com was arrested in New York at JFK Airport on an active out-of-state warrant from Louisiana.

Dicks' arrest comes less than two months after former BetonSports chief David Carruthers was arrested by federal agents at the Dallas airport as he waited with his wife for a connecting flight to Costa Rica, where most of his sports-betting company's operations were based.

Unlike Bet on Sports, the Sporting Bet website remained active. The Bet on Sports website shut down immediately after the arrest of Carruthers in July and all the accounts from US players were frozen and locked up essentially ripping off the money of US players.

On a personal note I had money in an account on MVP Sports which I found out too late had been purchased by Bet on Sports. I sent them an e-mail inquiring about getting a refund of the money in my account but have been getting the run around from them. I urge all of you who may want to bet sports online to be careful not to place any money into an account that you can't afford to lose. These crack downs will likely continue and your money may not be safe.
