Smoking Ban Coming to Atlantic City Casinos
Monday January 1, 2007
The City Council in New Jersey's gambling mecca put off a vote Friday on banning smoking in casinos to give the nightspots more time to get ready. A new, amended proposal is expected to pass in a Jan. 24 vote. It would take effect April 15; the previous measure would have taken effect in a month.
The ordinance would make Atlantic City the biggest gambling spot in the nation to bar smoking. Las Vegas, Biloxi, Miss., and most Indian casinos allow smoking. A year ago, New Jersey banned smoking in most indoor public places, including bars and restaurants, but exempted the powerful casino industry. Anti-smoking groups and casino workers welcomed the ban, but the casino industry warned of legal action.

I cannot wait for the smoking ban to take place. It is so sad that profits outweigh health. How stupid to think that the revenues from gambling are more important that the health care cost savings, and, above all the longevity of employees. Also, nobody seems to care that the smoke makes the casinos look and feel dirty. I would bet that the maintenance costs will decline once smoking is banned. The true economics of a smoking ban are missed by all those dummies who are only focused on the bottom line of a financial statement.
This has nothing to do with health. it’s about one group taking pleasure in denying pleasure to another. i can’t wait until draconian laws come around to affect you.
Soon you will only be allowed to smoke in your bed under a blanket after 3am. Welcome to old world Russia!
I have a cousin named Sharon I can’t stand. She’s an anally retentive, vexing, granola eating, mealy mouthed complainer. Just like you! Sharon M!
great—now all our good friends at G A S P, sen. henry waxman and all the rest of the ‘no smoking’ nazi’s now have a smoke free place to gamble. trouble is with the immediate 30% + loss in revenue, how long will they have their little mecca to enjoy—no long i’m betting—excuse the pun!!! LMAO but not in atlantic city
may as well start the layoffs now. This has nothing to do with health, it’s another power play by this ###### up state.
