World Series of Poker Underway

The 38th annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) got underway on Friday June 1, 2007 at the RIO casino in Las Vegas. This year it will run for six weeks before crowning a winner in the most prestigious event in poker, the $10,000 No Limit Championship tournament. Over 20,000 players from 40 countries are expected to participate in this year's series of tournaments.

This year will also see changes in the pay structure of the main event in which the money will be spread out giving a higher percentage to those finishing in the money on the lower end. The top 27 players will receive a little lower percentage. A Harrah's official said the new structure was designed to increase the rewards to players who finish in the money but don't make it to the final table.
