Another Shutdown?

Tuesday June 19, 2007
I just read a news article that reporting that Pennsylvania's five racetrack/casinos could be shut down as soon as July 7 if Gov. Ed Rendell can't reach agreement with state legislators on a new $27 billion budget for 2007-08.

The Rendell administration is saying that 26,000 "nonessential'' state workers would be furloughed as soon as July 7 if an agreement on a new budget isn't reached by then. Among the nonessential workers are those who run the central control computer system at the Department of Revenue, which is electronically connected to all 9,000 slot machines at the five existing racetrack/casinos.

Last year the New Jersey casinos were shut down for three days when that State could not reach a budget agreement and non essential" services were shut down including the regulators who oversee the casino operations.
