Don’t Blame Other Players

Monday August 27, 2007
I went to the casino this weekend to see a show. I arrived early and had a few hours to kill before the show so I decided to play Blackjack. Normally I avoid the casino on the weekends because of the crowded conditions but since I was there I wanted to play.

I found an empty seat and sat down at a table only to discover that a player at the table thought he was an expert whose job included telling everyone how to play their hands. If one of the players at the table deviated from basic strategy this "expert" would get upset and yell at them. He really got upset when a player at third base took the dealers bust card and the dealer made 21 and beat everybody. I tried explaining this player that in the long run the decisions made by the other players would all even out for the basic strategy player. He did not want to hear this and started arguing with me and call me an idiot. I've learned a long time ago that it is not worth arguing with someone who won't listen to reason so I got up and left the table. Playing casino games should be entertaining and fun and this can't happen with a player telling everyone else what to do and yelling because he doesn't like the way they play. This situation was a good reminder why I don't like playing on the weekends when the casino busy and the tables are crowded.

That is a very narrow minded opinion. Some Blackjack players are playing for an additional source of income. I can vividly recall a round at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas where a dumb tourist, sitting at the seventh base, hit a hard 16 against a dealer six. He busted and his $15 bet was taken. The dealer the proceeded to draw a king, and a 5, making 21.

How did it effect me?

-$400 thanks to pure ignorance.
