Are You a George?

Thursday August 30, 2007
Every occupation has its own lingo that may seem foreign to someone not in the business. Casino dealers are no different from anyone else. One term, they use to describe a player who is a good tipper is "George."

Since a good portion of the dealers income is based on tips the dealers love having a George at their tables for obvious reasons. Most of the time when a player is a good tipper, the dealers will go out of their way to be extra friendly and helpful. They want that player to stay at the table as long as possible.

I am surprised at the number of people who sit down and play a casino table game that never tip the dealer. These same people will tip the beverage server a dollar per drink or the waiter in the restaurant 20 percent of the bill but won't even consider giving the casino dealer a dollar or placing a bet for them.

You don't have to be over tip the dealers but if you are enjoying yourself it does not hurt to occasionally tip the dealer. Here are some suggestions for tipping casino dealers.
