High Table Game Limits

Thursday September 13, 2007
One of the biggest complaints I hear from players is that the minimum bet for the table games are high especially on the weekend and other busy times. Areas with only one or two casinos and even Atlantic City on a weekend all suffer from the lack of tables to accommodate the lower limit players.

Unfortunately it's a matter of supply and demand. Since there are more players than table space the casinos can raise the limits and still fill many of the seats. The sad reality is that, it also makes more economic sense to the casino to have higher limit tables even if some of them are not full.

I just returned from a few days in San Diego California where I had the opportunity to spend some tine at the Viejas Casino. They had a sign telling blackjack players that they can always find a five dollar table available 24/7. I think this is a great idea than more casinos should adopt, even if they only have one or two tables at the lower limits. The casinos are complaining about the decline in table game players and this would help the situation. Many novice players would like t o try table games but not if it is going to cost them $25 a hand to play.

Right on!

I play at Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods, and I have to go at some pretty strange hours (early Sunday, Tuesday late night, etc) in order to get tables at the $10, but the trend is more for $15 tables.

You should let folks know that the last time I was at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY, they had a LOT of $5 tables, at least during the weekdays. I was last there July 2006.

You are absolutely right about that Bill. In AC on the weekends, it is nearly impossible to find $5 tables. It projects a attitude of greed and patrons resent it. We find ourselves playing low denomination slots instead and spend LESS money at the casinos when their tables are set to prohibitively high levels. This is a trend that the ‘Corporate’ owners put in place – it wasn’t always like that. As time goes on, maybe these newcomer owners will wise up. But this will only happen if customers demand more value for their money at these casinos.

My husband and I both play at Mohegan Sun because they always have $5 craps tables, 24/7, and if they raise the minimum bet, they grandfather you in. We notice that in Atlantic City, the dealers stand with their arms folded as there are no players at their tables. This is at Trump Marina. I’ve also seen this at other Atlantic City casinos. Foxwoods is similar to Atlantic City, so we won’t play there as well. And they only grandfather you in at the blackjack tables and no other table games….another reason to stay away from Foxwoods.

Casinos operate on a percentage. The higher the table minimum, the higher the profit. However, Las Vegas still offers the best return for your gambling dollar, due to liberal rules and competition. Just because a table has a lower minimum, dose not mean it is a better deal for the player, as low limit games tend to have a higher house advantage. Every Indian Casino I’ve been to had rules that favored the house with a higher house advantage. Check the stats and other info on the “Wizard of Odds” website.

I normally play at a $25 or more table so only have a problem with this when we visit Kansas City and St. Louis. Both fairly close to us.
As most may know, Missouri only permits one to lose $500(buy in max) every two hours. So if you drop the $500 in a half hour or so, you have upwards of 3 hours between session?
How about THIS one! Try and get a seat at a $5 or $10 table, anytime! Anyone who knows the game, with those conditions, will play at a $25 table!

Regarding the email I just wrote above, please read the last line as “will NOT play at a $25 table!

I love blackjack. I never play where the table game is more then $5.00. We have to fly to Las Vegas to have any fun. I am hoping West Virginia will have $5.00 tables as I can drive there in 2 and 1/2 hours. Plese stay on this subject and maybe the casino ’s will wise up, there is alot more low roller’s then high rollers.
