ATM Use for Slot Vouchers Rejected

Wednesday September 26, 2007
The Nevada Gaming Commission unanimously rejected a plan that would have allowed players to use their debit cards to buy ticket in- ticket out vouchers for the slot machines.

The proposal was requested through a partnership between Global Cash Access and slot maker IGT who wanted to make it easier for players to keep playing the slots. In rejecting the proposal the Gaming Commission said there was no need for such a system. They said that there were already ATM machines on the casino floors and ones that dispatched vouchers instead of cash were not necessary. National problem gambling advocates also denounced the idea saying that it would make it to easy for compulsive gamblers to continue playing.

I agree with the Gaming Commission. I don't think it is necessary to have an ATM to dispense slot vouchers. Players who use the ATM to obtain cash while playing in the casino have the option of putting the cash in their wallets and waking away if they change their minds. If the ATM gave out a voucher the player would have to put it into the slot machines or take them to the redemption machine or cage to get cash. They will be more inclined to play.
