Another Casino Implosion in Las Vegas

Tuesday October 30, 2007
Another of the older casinos on the Las Vegas Strip will soon be just a memory. The New Frontier will be imploded at 2:30 a.m. on November 13, 2007. New York based Elad Group bought the property in May for $1.2 billion and closed it on July 16th of this year. There are plans to build a $5 billion mixed-use project modeled after New York's Plaza Hotel on the 34.5-acre site. The project still has to be approved by the county's planners and commissioners.

The New Frontier will be Controlled Demolition's 16th major hotel demolition in Clark County. Prior projects include the Landmark, Aladdin, Dunes, Castaways, Hacienda, Sands and, most recently, the Stardust earlier this year. The Aladdin was imploded and rebuilt but has recently been bought and re-branded as Planet Hollywood. I made my first trip to Las Vegas in 1994 and have had the chance to witness many changes to the famous Strip. I hate to see all of these legendary casinos disappear.

The legendary casinos have all been felled. We started our visits to LV in 1991..the year that Excalibur opened I believe. Yes a lot of pleasant memories have gone by the way. But you know what…lots of new spectacular buildings, shows and casinos have replaced them. Twice a year (more if possible) is our goal to come to LV. Seems every time there is “new ground” to explore! LV a very dynamic city is lots of fun to visit and play.
