Slot Player's Bad Behavior

Thursday November 1, 2007
I love to watch people when I go to the casino. Sometimes the things you see people do while playing slot machines are quite entertaining however there are other times when the behavior is not. I consider myself a fairly easing going guy and do my best to get along with everyone. One thing that does bother me is rude and inconsiderate people who seem to be oblivious to how their behavior affects any one around them. Maybe you have encountered a few of these slot players as well.

Hi Bill —

I love the guy who stands up, usually leaning over your shoulder, to “play” the machine next to you. He sticks in his ticket or bill, takes two or three spins and cashes out. Or, what’s up with people who have to make everbody move while they get seated at a machine, then take two spins and leave?

I understand what you are talking about. It happens not only at the slots, but at the tables also. Cigarettes? How about those stinky cigars? And the obnoxious drunks? While we’re at it, lets not forget about the rude and inconsiderate casino employees. Have I ever been guilty of bad behavior at the casinos? You bet! (no pun intended). And why not? I am spending my hard earned money. We make trips to the casino to escape reality and have fun, act crazy. After all, these are casinos, not the library or places of worship. Gambling has a history of wild times and shady characters associated with it. The old Las Vegas was a great place. Today, the corporate bean counters want to sanitize the casino floor and make an environment that appeals to businessmen - and women too! (notice that they are all adding shopping and other non-gaming activities). It used to be fun handling all those coins and carrying around those buckets. Now you get a slip of paper. This saves the casinos lots of money, allowing them to make greater profits. But are they giving us better odds at the games? Heck no, in fact, they are continually trying to introduce variations of games designed to take more money from their patrons which gives them even higher profits.
Stop complaining about the atmosphere or your fellow players - redirect your energy towards the management and how they are ruining the games. Let’s put the fun back into gambling.

I love the person who is playing 2 or 3 machines at time. Even if you approach from behind with no intention of playing a machine, they are looking everywhich way to make sure no one walks up to one of their machines.
Where I live in the Upper Midwest, it is cheaper for the casinos to pay fines to the state for payout violations on the slots than it is to pay out more to players in the casinos.
I would like to see a little more money paid out to the players than to the state for political deals.
