Voters Approve Casino Referendum

Wednesday November 7, 2007
Casinos in Massachusetts could be one step closer to reality. Tuesday voters in the city of Chicopee approved a non binding referendum to approve a casino for their city. The victory was slimmer than expected winning by only 256 votes. Governor Patrick has filed legislation that would allow three resort casinos, including one in western Massachusetts. Chicopee was one of the cities vying for the casino if the legislation for casino gambling is approved.

As a resident of Western MA, I am really hoping to get casinos in this neck of the woods. However, I think Chicopee is a HORRIBLE choice. It simply does not have the resources to host a proper, resort-complex style casino. The best we would get is some overglorified slots palace that would be a blight upon an already struggling community.
