Delaware Considering Sports Betting

Thursday November 8, 2007
Delaware is considering allowing wagering on sports at the State's three casinos. In June of this year, lawmakers passed a resolution authorizing the budget finance director and controller general to conduct a study and submit a report to the legislature. That report is due on Dec. 21 of this year.

Delaware has been concerned with the increased competition from nearby States. Pennsylvania now has slot machines and there is a possibility that soon Maryland will have them as well. If approved, Delaware's sports gambling will not be similar to Las Vegas type wagering. A Delaware sports lottery would require combination bets such as parlays to make it more difficult to win. Delaware is one of four States exempt from the 1992 Sports betting ban.
