Smart Players Not Wanted For Survey

Sunday December 9, 2007
I belong to an online focus group and once or twice a month I get invited to participate in a survey. Usually I have to answer some preliminary questions to see if I qualify for the demographics they are trying to reach. Last week I was invited to take a survey the first questions asked me if I visited a casino within the last year. I answered yes and the next question asked how many times I had gone to a casino during the year. When I put in my response I was taken to the next screen which listed 10 statements that I needed to respond to choosing numbers one through five with number one being "Totally Disagree" and number five being "Totally Agree." Here is a sample of the statements and my responses.

I visit the casino for entertainment. ( 2 : I visit for entertainment but also to win.)
Winning is not important as long as I have fun. (1: Winning is important.)
I always play the same games. (4 : I play the games with the lowest house edge.)
I consider myself and expert at the casino games. (5 : Of course.)

Based on my response to the 10 questions, I was informed that I did not meet the criteria they were looking for to participate to the next part of the survey. I concluded that they must be looking for players with very little knowledge of the games who go the casinos to blow a few bucks and are happy to lose as long as they have fun. I have been visiting the casinos for over 25 years and having fun is one reason I go but it is much more fun when I win.
