Are Flying Casinos Next

Sunday February 17, 2008
A story in the New York Post reported that airline maker Airbus had been contacted by several of its customers inquiring about converting its A380 superjumbo jet into a flying casino. The flying casinos would be used to transport Asian gamblers to some of the major gambling destinations.

The writer went on to point out several drawbacks for this idea. Stacks of chips used in table games might not fare well in turbulent air. This means they might opt to fill the casinos with slot machines instead of table games. However the gamblers might not enjoy listening to the constant noise of the slot machines during a 12 hour flight. Another good point is what would happen if the high rollers lost all their money in the air before making it to the casino that was sponsoring the flight?

Although it might be a nice diversion during a long flight I don't think I'm ready for flying casinos just yet. I can wait a few extra hours to get to the land based casinos. I don't think I need to be gambling during my flight there.

Electronic tables using virtual chips could possibly solve the problem of chip messing up during turbulent.

For countries without casino, the idea of “cruise to no-where” gambling trip is rather popular. How about “Fly to no-where”?
