Treasure Island Field Tests Server Based Slots

Sunday March 2, 2008
The Treasure Island Casino in Las Vegas has started field testing on the new sever-based slots that have been touted as the next generation of slot machine technology. They have installed 32 machines on the casino floor. Once the field testing is done the system will be available throughout the State of Nevada.

Sever based slots are generic slot kiosks connected to a main computer. The new technology allows the casino operators to change the games, denominations, and payback with a few mouse clicks from the main terminal. It is estimated that some casinos will begin to switch over to the sever based slots either at the end of this year or the early part of 2009.

For years I have been trying to convince slot players that there was no way the casino could flip a switch and change the payback of a machine. Now, when the new server-based slots make it to the casino floor, this myth will become a reality.

Great! Nothing like increasing the house’s edge even more. Those are slots I definitely do NOT want to play.

I have never believed your myth that the casinos cannot reprogram or reset a machine to recalculate the jackpot or size of wins. The slots are deader than door knobs in the last 2 years. I don’t see any wins or slot payout anymore. Those are rare1

Sever Based Slots ? Can the house switch the payback amount while someone is playing the machine?? This does not sound like good news to the ever loyal slot machine player.

yep, the technology is real folks. But if you think about it,casinos can change the percentage of jackpots with micro chips.
Isn’t this great change, like going from a black & white television, to a “remote control” Television. sign of the times folks.
Besides, I feel sorry for casinos not making ends meet. Won’t see me touch those machines…

They can’t switch them while you are playing. The machine has to be idle for a few minutes.

This move will obviously save the casinos time and labor and costs involved in changing machines. They will of course turn around and put these savings into higher payoffs–LMAO

Casino’s, What a joke it is trying to win in the last few years. The more their revenue from players goes down due to the economy, the more they lower the pay off’s on the machines. I feel real sorry for them. Frankly, I hope they lose so many customers that they finally have to get back to basics and up the payoffs so people come back…right, when hell freezes over.
