Massachusetts House Defeats Casino Plans
Tuesday March 25, 2008
Last week Massachusetts lawmakers, voted against the governor's controversial casino gambling plan despite having supported expanded gaming in the past. There had been much speculation over the last few months that the State would finally get three casinos in the near future but that will not happen any time soon.
The House voted 108-46 to kill the casino legislation and instead voted in favor of further study of casino gambling. The move to refer the casino bill to a study commission means legislators did not have to go on record as opposing the closely watched bill in an election year.
Massachusetts residents in favor of the casinos must feel a little like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Every time they get ready to kick the ball it is pulled away at the last minute.
