Cell Phone Ban to Be Reviewed
Wednesday April 2, 2008
Nevada gaming regulations prohibit the use of cell phones in and around the sports book area. It was originally designed to stop the transmission of sports betting lines across state lines who may use t he information for illegal sports betting. Enforcing cell phone ban has become a major headache for the casino personnel since the majority of people carry cell phone and many tourists are not even aware of the regulation.
The Nevada Gaming Commission is planning to review the regulation this year and it will probably be abolished. One Nevada Gaming Board member said, "Technology has moved forward and anyone can get the current odds and lines by pushing a few strokes of the keys so we have to decide whether or not the ban serves as regulatory function."
