Saturday is the 133rd running of the Preakness and the second leg of the horse racing's Triple Crown. Each year at this time the public eagerly waits to see if the winner of the Kentucky Derby can advance towards horse racing history. Big Brown was one of the first favorites in several years to win the Derby and the Colt is an early favorite in the Preakness on Saturday. That only means one thing…DO NOT bet the race if you want to be t Big Brown. It is simply not worth the return you will get even if the horse wins.
When you bet on a horse race you are making a parimutuel wager which means you are betting against all the other players wagering on that event. The entire money bet on the event goes into a large pool. The holders of winning tickets divide the total amount of money bet on the race (the pool), after deductions for tax and racetrack expenses. If the majority of the public is betting on the favorite you will not win very much money if it wins.
