WSOP Not The Only Game

Sunday June 22, 2008
The World Series of Poker may be the biggest tournament in the World but it is not the only tournament in Las Vegas. The WSOP brings an over abundance of poker players into town and many of the casino poker rooms are trying to attract them by offering alternative tournaments. Many of these tournaments have events with a much lower buy in than the WSOP events.

The most notable is the Binions Poker Classic being held in downtown Las Vegas. Binions is the original home of the World Series of Poker but the rights were sold to Harrahs several years ago and moved to the RIO Hotel and casino. Last year Binions waned to bring a poker tournament back to the downtown and they established the Poker Classic to be held at the same time as the WSOP. The tournament offers many of the same events as the WSOP but with much loser buy-ins. Many of these are under $200. For those players who do not have the money for the higher priced events, this tournament is a great alternative. The Binions Poker Classic runs through July 8th.
