Slot Techs at Atlantic City Tropicana Vote to Strike
Wednesday January 28, 2009
Slot technicians at the Tropicana in Atlantic City have voted to strike. The technicians maintain the slot machines which bring in the most revenue. The 23 employees are represented by the United Auto Workers and voted Tuesday night, protesting the lack of a contract after more than a year of negotiations with the Tropicana, which is about to be sold in a bankruptcy auction. Dealers and other casino workers are also considering a strike vote.
This is just the latest problem to plague this casino. The Tropicana was once one of the nicest casinos on the Boardwalk but now it is old, tired and run down. The service is terrible and I found many of the dealers to be rude. It is too bad because I used to like playing at the Tropicana. It was one of the casinos I visited when I made my first trip to Atlantic City 30 years ago and I hit my first jackpot there. On my last visit I decided that I would not go back until they get things straightened out, if they can. Hopefully whoever buys the place can turn it around.
