Are You an Average Gambler?
Wednesday April 29, 2009
Each year the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) takes a survey to determine the gambling habits of vacationers in Las Vegas. The results of the 2008 survey were published last week and it confirmed that visitors to Las Vegas gambled less in 2008 than they did in the previous year. The average amount that visitors budgeted for a gambling was $532 which was down from the $600 average of 2007 and well below the $652 average of 2006. With all the publicity give to the high rollers who bet thousands of dollars per hand, you might find it comforting to know that not everyone who visits Las Vegas has a bigger bankroll than you do.

Was that bankroll for the whole trip or per day? If for the whole trip, then how long is the average trip?
Since the question didn’t specify a length of stay I answered based on a 5 day trip. for a single day I generally allow $300 to $500 although I rarely use this much.
I ALWAYS adhere to the gaming advisors’ criteria stressing money management. I play three $250 sessions each day. The winnings from each session never go back onto the table or back into the machines. I set a win/loss goal (a percentage) for the discretionary money I have. When I meet that win OR loss goal … I walk away…and live to play another session!
