Five Dollar Blackjack is a Hit at the Mohegan Sun

Monday June 1, 2009
One of the most frequent complaints I hear from casino players is that the table limits are too high. This is especially true on the weekends and holidays when the casino is crowded. Unfortunately it usually comes down to a matter of "supply and demand" and when the casino is crowded they can raise the table limits because they know they will find players to fill the tables. Even if they do not completely fill a table, two blackjack players betting $25 per hand will generate more profits for the casino than seven players betting $5 per hand.

Over the last year casino visitations have been declining and many casinos have been trying to attract players with promotions and other incentives. A few months ago the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT started to advertise that they would be offering five dollar blackjack games, 24/7. I have to admit that when I first heard the ads I was skeptical. I figured that it was probably just a gimmick and they would only have one or two tables offering the low limit games.

I visited the Mohegan Sun yesterday and was surprised to see that they had a pit of 10 tables offering $5 Blackjack and Spanish 21 games. There was also a Roulette table in the pit that was not open but when I asked the pit boss, I was told that it was also a $5 minimum. I spoke to several of the players and all of them said they were pleased with the new $5 games and that they hoped the Mohegan Sun will keep the games even when the economy picks up.

The way to improve business is to give the customers what they want and obviously the Mohegan Sun has found that many of their customers want lower table limits. Maybe some of the other casinos around the country who are complaining about the lack of customers will give it a try.

I haven’t seen that too much i was in the Hard Rock Tampa on Friday and their lowest was 15 and that was only a couple of tables the rest were 25 or 50. They don’t seem to believe the economy is down but they don’t have competition either.

we always play BJ when in Vegas and now going downtown since on the strip is almost impossible to find $5 tables anymore, or give us 6/5 odds which we won’t play. granted if winning we will progress our bets, but don’t want to be forced to play at minimum of $15 per hand as it is in most of the big strip casinos.
