Casinos Forfeit Jackpots from Underage Gamblers

Monday June 8, 2009
I knew that the casinos could deny payment to underage gamblers who hit a jackpot on the slot machines and I often wondered what happened to that money. Did the casinos keep it?

After researching this further I found out that under New Jersey law, casinos must forfeit any winnings they collect from underage gamblers. In fact last week the New Jersey regulators fined two casinos for underage violations and forced them to turn over the money from the unpaid jackpots.

The Borgata Casino was ordered by the state Casino Control Commission to forfeit a total of $4,083 that was won by 45 underage gamblers. The Trumps Plaza Casino had to forfeit a total of $1,591 that was won by 46 underage gamblers.
