Positive Progressive Systems

Friday June 26, 2009
My friend Rich and I were playing craps the other day at the casino. We both bought in for the same amount but at the end of our playing session, I had won much more money than he did. We both were playing at the same table, betting on the same shooters yet our results were very different. This led to a discussion about how we were betting. I was using a positive progression on the hot shooters while Rich was flat betting the same amount and never raising his bets. He told me that he did not believe that progression systems worked in the long run so he always kept his bets the same.

Many players feel this way and it is true that no betting system can change the house edge, however a positive betting progression can take advantage of a winning streak and increase your winnings during the course of a playing session. Using a positive progression system is when you increase your bets as you are winning. Here is a look at positive progression systems.

My husband and I also press our bets up when there’s a hot roll. There is no way a person can win big if you don’t press your bets. I remember one time at Harrah’s Atlantic City, a shooter threw a lot of naturals and we pressed our bets the same as if we were winning our pass line bets. I made a mental mistake in my progression and pressed my bet two levels up, but I was lucky the shooter stayed hot. My husband was at the other end of the table and didn’t see what I did. After the roll was over, I wound up winning $1,650 and my husband won $850 on that roll. It took a few more visits to the casino to realize what had happened as it happened again, when at another Atlantic City casino, the same thing happened. When I increased my bet two levels up, my husband told me what I should have bet and I went back to a single increase. That’s when it hit me, why I won twice as much as he did at Harrah’s a few months earlier. Another time, I had the dice in CT., and I established and made two 9’s and kept establishing 4’s six times and made five of those 4’s, all the while increasing my bet. I was being paid in green chips. After my roll, I must have been up over $500, starting at $5 stakes, and I went one more shooter. Not only did I win on his roll, making points, but I won $125 on the $5 fire bet I made on him. When his roll was over, I walked away $745 ahead. I’ve seen hot shooters bet $5 and no odds, everyone at the table is winning a lot of money and the shooter walked away with a mere $30 profit!
