The Skyline casino in Henderson, Nevada is a small friendly place with a good restaurant and 400 slot machines (mostly keno and video poker) to keep you busy. It's been a "locals" place since the early 1970's and continues to be a great casino to hang-out, have a few drinks, play some slots and enjoy snacks like 99-cent shrimp cocktails you can order from the cocktail servers.
As a Henderson institution, I'm not surprised to hear that John C. Kish and Frank "Jack" Plevo, who reopened the casino in 1974 have made a substantial contribution to the College of Southern Nevada Foundation.
The $208,000 gift from the Kish Foundation will be part of a scholarship fund at the college. The CSN Department of Hospitality Management provides associate degree and certificate programs, including Casino Management, Culinary Arts, Pastry Arts, Food and Beverage Management, Hotel Management, and Travel and Tourism.
Although Kish passed away in 2007, his partner, Frank "Jack" Plevo, continues to reside in Henderson and is a driving force in the administration of the Kish Foundation. Said Plevo:
"John and I founded the Skyline Casino in 1974 and over the years it established quite a name for great food and local flavor. John and I created a Henderson landmark. It is important to me to help students, who live in Henderson and are interested in the hospitality industry, to achieve their educational goals and be successful."
Merry Christmas!
