WMS is a shortening of Williams, which is actually WMS Industries, Inc., which used to be Williams Electronics, Inc., which was the Williams Manufacturing Company, founded by Harry E. Williams in 1943. Phew!

Along the way, Williams made pinball machines, was purchased by Seeburg, which made juke boxes, produced the ever-popular oldie video game Defenders, was purchased by Bally Midway and made Addams Family pinball and Mortal Kombat Video, and now makes slot machines too.

Well, that's unfair. WMS Gaming was created as a new division in 1992 and has been manufacturing slots (mostly for the United States market) since then. I've watched them grow, and seen the popularity of their games increase on a regular basis.

This past week I spent a lot of time checking out new slot machines that I had never played before. Many of those with the best graphics were WMS.

I did have to chuckle when I played the Palace of Riches III slot, however. WMS says, "This 5x4 reel video game is based on the riches of a medieval kingdom. The base game combines the features of a 5x4 reel interface with the volatility of WMS' G+ branded games. The KEY symbol triggers the Hot Hot Super Respin and the wild symbol is the Palace Of Riches III logo."

If you haven't tried the game, it does capture your imagination. Especially when you get the Hot Hot Super Respin, which comes in the form of a fireball with a smile, and in the case of the Palace of Riches I was playing, the fireball stopped on the top of the Prince's head, where it burned for quite a while.

Apparently, the Prince's crown must be flame retardant, because when the free spins were over and the fireball went away, he still looked great. So did my credit score, having racked-up hundreds of credits - so all is good in the Palace.

Check the new slot out at a casino near you!

I hate all the new penny slots because they are designed so that it is almost impossible for you to walk away with a profit, with their high hit frequency and low payback table. Basically, you are playing a high priced video game.

It is a fun slot machine but anymore you may be betting all the lines, which in this case is 30 or 40 cents and you may get a payback of 25 cents. Doesn’t make sense. I have also noticed in some of the casino magazines that they will have pictures of the new machines and to play all the lines, it costs you say 30 cents and they even show a payback in the pictures of 25 cents! Now we know that happens to us at the casinos but I wouldn’t be posting it! LOL
