While casinos in many areas of the country are struggling, the new Aria at CityCenter and The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas have seen excellent results based on the overall economy. Their location at the heart of the strip next to the Bellagio doesn't hurt either.
In fact, after receiving a very nice complimentary two-night stay offer last month I was looking forward to one of The Cosmopolitan's private terrace rooms, but alas, I was too late. Although I called more than a month in advance of the end booking date, there were no rooms left for little old me. Bummer!
After five years of stop and start construction, the $3.9 billion resort officially opened on December 15, 2010. The Cosmopolitan's two towers rise well above the Bellagio and along with the massive CityCenter, make it impossible to see around the Strip anymore.
The Cosmopolitan has opened in waves, but now offers 2995 rooms, 300,000 sq feet of retail and restaurant space, and a 40,000 sq ft spa and fitness facility. The casino's 1,478 slots run the gamut of machines from 1-cent to $500 and include reel spinning, video reel and video poker machines.
At CityCenter and the Aria casino, you can play the usual table games like 21, craps, roulette, Let it Ride, WPT Poker and others. Plus you can play up to $5,000 on the single pull of a slot handle. My, my. The casino also offers a 24-table poker room you can reach at 702-590-7230. The 150,000 sq ft casino has a large sports book if you feel the itch with the Major League Baseball season starting right now.
