Casinos in Kansas

The state of Kansas is in the process of adding new casinos to the Native American properties currently in operation. Maybe you knew that, but did you know that no US presidents were born in the state of Kansas and only one US vice president was born there? Yeah, I really didn't know that either.

However, Kansas-born Charles Curtis was the 31st Vice President of the United States, served under Herbert Hoover, and was the first person with significant acknowledged Native American ancestry to become vice president. His maternal ancestry was three-quarters' Native American, of ethnic Kaw, Osage and Pottawatomie ancestry.

Curtis saw plenty of gambling halls in the Old West of Dodge City and Kansas City, and now there are Native American casinos in those very places. In the next year, Kansas will also have two new state-owned casinos (Hollywood Casino and Kansas Star). The existing casinos feature standard Las Vegas style slot machines, blackjack, craps and roulette.

Dodge City's Boot Hill Casino has 580 machines to choose from. The property is located in the south-western part of the state. The rest of the state's five casinos are up in the north-eastern part of the state and include:
