Hawaii and Utah are the only two states without any form of legal gambling. I may need to move to one of those states pretty soon. Now don't get me wrong, I love casinos and I love casino gambling, but there used to be a special allure to a casino.
Part of the fun and excitement of casino gambling was that you couldn't gamble except in Atlantic City or in Nevada. Now casinos are springing up everywhere, it seems.
With Ohio legislators bickering over fees and taxes, Iowa legislators doing the same, and what seems like everybody in court over some type of squabble from union workers in Atlantic City to spurned casino owners in Baltimore, where does it all end?
The sad truth is: it doesn't. States and municipalities see gaming as a sure winner to improve the tax base, create jobs and improve tourism. Casinos are the McDonald's of the 21st Century with slots of some type finding homes in most states. Full-scale casinos are legal in 38 states. Didn't anybody see Super Size Me?
You should enjoy your casino gambling, slots and blackjack, and for the vast majority of players the games offered are fun and exciting - and nothing more. Keep it that way in your life and you can enjoy yourself for years to come by learning new games, winning some, losing some, and still having a life of your own.
However, if you are running into problems with your gambling, maybe even seeing a gambling addiction, for goodness sake, get some help!
