Every year I find plenty of trends to bet during the baseball season. Some handicappers wait until five or six weeks into the season before they fire away, but I usually figure my bets get the most value early in the season.
Early betting allows you to take advantage of several trends that pop-up as the season begins. Sometimes these are no more than streaks, but if you spot something early you can certainly exploit it.
If I had waited until June to bet any games, I wouldn't have had the chance to watch the Orioles win a half dozen games in a row - and then bet against them, knowing their lineup was weak and they were due to get whacked around a bit.
I also would have missed the chance to win several bets on the Red Sox, who I love to hate, and who got clubbed game after game to start the season. Since, we all knew they were going to start winning, once they were ten games into the season they were a really nice bet for the next ten as they straightened things out.
I did ignore the Indians while they won almost ten straight games, but it was fun catching several bets against them as they came back to earth and have played a more realistic .500 ball since.
So who's next? I'm not telling you who to bet, because your guess could be as good as mine, but the Twins have lost seven straight games, and they are a better team than they are showing right now. Are they going to get swept at home this weekend? Unlikely. Are they going to win six or seven out of the next 10 games as big dogs? I think they might.
