Seen the new IGT Texas Hold'em slot machines? They are in casinos now!
The poker games in Vegas this past month have been great. Even at smaller clubs there are good games. Many fans of the WSOP are in town to check out the action and to play in an event or two, and not all of them are staying at the Rio.
The Aria, for example, had over a dozen great $1-2 and $2-3 no-limit games going this week. Unfortunately, I had to wait for a seat so I decided to try the new IGT "Texas Hold'em Heads Up Poker" machine that was right by the rail of the poker room. Yikes!
First off, the new slots come in plenty of denominations and you don't have to play the $5 bet ones or even the $1 bet ones. Look for a 25-center if you want to try heads-up for the first time. Don't be like me.
I didn't view the IGT video first and get excited. I just figured I'd get a few good hands and see what happened. Well, that didn't work out too well for me. I'm lousy at heads-up play, and in a game that delivers more than a hand a minute, that spells disaster.
As I now understand it, the new game was developed by G2 Gaming and is the first game to use neural net technology - a mathematical model that simulates the operation of the human brain. It won't learn your style of play, but it does think and it already knows how to play heads-up a lot better than you do if you don't regularly play the game.
Now that you are forewarned, the game is a lot of fun if you like playing against a really tough decision making opponent who raises and bluffs regularly. Good luck!
