Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Casino & Restaurant is really going to open in 2012, according to SunHerald.com.
Buffett has worked relentlessly to see his own casino open, and worked with Harrah's/Caesars Entertainment for a decade to bring his dreams to fruition. His Margaritaville restaurant on the Strip in Las Vegas is opening in October, but there have been many other plans wrecked on the rocks of his dreams along the Mississippi shore.
In 2007, Harrah's announced a joint venture with Buffett for a $700 million project. Slated for a 46-acre site south of U.S. 90 in Biloxi, formerly occupied by Grand Casino and Casino Magic, plans were put on hold and eventually canceled over the next year.
The new project joins 22 other open or proposed/developing casinos along the Biloxi, Gulfport coast. Scaled-down considerably from the (read: deep pockets) Harrah's version, the new resort under construction off Fifth Street on the Back Bay in Biloxi looks like a 68,000-square-foot, $48 million Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Casino and Restaurant that really will open in April or May of 2012.
Thomas Brosig, former general manager at Grand Biloxi, takes the helm as President and CEO. Karen Sock, also of Grand Casinos, is acting GM and COO. Jimmy Buffett is, well, excited. His MVB Holdings company is expected to be responsible for the casino.
Additional managers are being brought into the fold as you read this and hiring of additional talent should happen in January.
