Betting NBA Futures? It's a real craps shoot this year.
Lockout Shortened SeasonThe regular NBA season is shortened this year, as is the pre-season, and your chance to accurately choose division winners and eventual champions may be tougher. In fact, as Charlie Zegers put it, the NBA is "Where Total Chaos Happens." With that in mind, you will have to completely change your way of betting futures this year.
Saying don't bet would be like telling my 2-year old not to cry when the dog eats her dropped cookie, so I'm with you here. But we all know the NBA is where any team can make the playoffs, since you don't have to come in first in your division. Or second, or third, or - well, you get the idea.
The NBA has two conferences, each with 15 teams in three divisions. The top eight make the playoffs. That's right, a team worse than half of the league can make the playoffs. Excellent, right?
Most any team can get there with this system. Well, not the Toronto Raptors, where according to Yahoo! sports, General manager Bryan Colangelo recently said, "We'd like to see some organic growth of our roster this season."
I don't think I'll be betting on the Raptors this year unless you make me smoke something organic. But that's another betting system I don't want to go into right now.
Betting NBA games is tough enough, betting the winners this year will be tougher.
Before you start, take a serious look at the chemistry that is being created with certain teams. Look at the Odom trade to Dallas, look at what's left for Kobe, and look at the odds.
