Kerry Packer Dead at 68

Tuesday January 10, 2006
Billionaire Kerry Packer died on December 26, 2005 at the age of 68. Along with being Australia's richest man, Packer was also considered one of the biggest "Whales" in Las Vegas. Packer would win or lose millions during his various stays in Las Vegas. He loved the action and could be found playing the highest stake games.

Some of his exploits are legendary. On one occasion he won 20 baccarat hands in a row while playing for $250,000 per hand. He was also one of the best tippers and dealers and wait staff loved to serve him. On another occasion after he won 5 million he reportedly tipped a cocktail waitress $125,000 so she could pa off the mortgage on her home.

One of the most famous stories about Packer was that he was playing at the Las Vegas Hilton when a Texas oilman became angry at the noise that Packer's entourage was making. The oilman boasted that he was worth $100 million dollars, to which Packer replied, I'll toss you for it."
