Tips from the pros panel. World Poker Player's Conference and VideoGuide Rating - ![]() In July 2003 I had the opportunity to attend the third World Poker Players Conference at the Orleans Casino in Las Vegas. I was joined by over 300 poker players from around the world who were there to listen to the expert seminars to help improve their game. The Conference got underway on time with opening comments and two quick tips from emcee Mike Caro. Mike would share more of his tips through out the day between introductions of the guest speakers. The first speaker was Barry Tanenbaum who spoke about Avoiding costly Holdem mistakes. As a Holdem player I found this to be a very informative sessions. Barry was followed by Tournament directors Dave Lamb and Matt Savage who explained the finer points of deal making in a tournament. Anyone who has made it to the final table knows the trial and tribulations of trying to cut a deal that is fair an equitable to all the players involved. The morning session concluded with Annie Duke giving expert tips on how to Adjust to Fast Lane of Internet Poker. The afternoon session started with a panel discussion about No Limit Holdem strategies. Wendeen Eolis moderated the panel that included former WSOP winners Russ Hamilton and Robert Varkonyi along with Robert Williamson as they shared their tips and advice. Mark Gregorich and Mark Tenner then shared their advanced Omaha/8 strategies. This was followed by the second panel discussion of the afternoon with tips from the pros featuring, Jan Fisher, Tom McEvoy, Lou Krieger, Lee Jones, Michael and Michael Wiesnenburg. The players at the conference then broke up round table discussions with speakers rotating to the different tables each ten minutes. Although the World Poker Conference was supposed to end at 6 pm it went passed this as players and speakers were happy to spend the extra time sharing information with each other. The World Poker Players conference was much more that I expected and Im looking forward to next years event. If you are serious about improving your game I recommend that you plan to attend next year as well. If you missed the conference you can still have the opportunity to watch the speakers. The conference was taped and Worldwide Poker is distributing copies of the conference along with other informative poker Videos through their Internet site. Videos of the conference and other events are available on a pay-per-view basis that can be viewed one time once you purchase access to the video or event. Or you can purchase and download videos that can be viewed unlimited number of times and burnt to a CD one time after you download it to your computer. Some videos with common subject or interest are placed in package format for your convenience.
You can purchase a video of the whole conference or just pick the segments that interest you. I took notes during the event but it is much easier to go back and review the whole lecture. The video of the conference will be a valuable addition to my poker library. If you missed this years conference, I recommend you check out the video. You will find it extremely informative. Until next time, remember: |
