2001 World Series of Poker

Final Results:

This year's World Series of Poker has come to an end. Carlos Mortensen of Madrid Spain beat out 612 other players to earn this year's title of Champion. For the second year in a row the number nine card decided the winner.

Last year Chris Ferguson won when the final river card gave him a pair of nines to win the title.

This Year Carlos Mortensen and American Dewey Tomko battled it out for the title. It was reported that Mortensen was chip leader with $4,100,000 and Tomko had about $2,000,000.

On the final hand Tomko limped in with pocket aces. The flop was 3c-10c-Jd and Mortensen bet $100,000. Tomko raised $400,000 and Mortensen went all in and Tomko called. Mortensen turned over the Kc-Qc giving him a straight draw and a flush draw. The turn brought the 3d and then the final river card was the nine of diamonds giving Mortensen his straight and the title of WSOP Champion.
