When you log on using the Poker Pages tournament program you enter the lounge area. Here you will see the sign-up board. If there were a tournament scheduled you would click on the tournament tab to sign up for the event. You can also chose one of many "side games" to play in.

You will see tabs for Low or High Limit Hold'em, 7-Card Stud, &-Card Stud Hi/Lo, Omaha or Omaha Hi/Lo. You also have the option of playing Hold'em one on one with another player. Once you click the tab for the game you want you will see the different limits offered for that game. If you choose low limit Hold'em you will see the games offered at the $2/4 $3/6 or $4/8 limits. In the upper right corner you can click the button to view how many game tables are being used for games. If you click the "view by waiting list" button, you can see if anyone is waiting for one of those tables. To join a game, you add your name to the list. You will be seated at a table when there is an opening.

You will also notice a pop-up window that tells you the table game details. If you are in the view by table mode you can click on any table and the name of the players at that table will show up in this window. It also shows you the average size of the pots and tells you the percentage of players who see the flop. You can chose to watch this table from the rail by clicking the "Observe this Table" button.

Once you join a game you will see the total number of chips you have. You can bring any amount to the table. If you have a big bankroll you can chose to bring all or part of your money. Once seated at the table you will notice some buttons for different actions in the lower left corner of the screen. You can speed up the game by utilizing some of these options.

The "Auto-post Blinds" button will automatically post your blinds without having to take the time to ask you when it is your turn. If you want to sit out a hand you can click on the "Sit out" button and it will skip by you.

Once you see your cards there are decisions you can make ahead of time. You can Bet/Raise in turn, Check/Call in turn or Check/Fold in turn. By clicking any of these options it will execute your choice when it is your turn to act.  All of these will speed up the game. If all the players utilized these buttons, you would be able to play more hands per hour. Take a minute to experiment with these when you log on.

That's all there is to know about the program. Playing against other players at Poker Pages is a good learning experience and an excellent way to get in a game when you can't travel to the card room. It's also a lot of fun and it's free! Log on and check out a game. See you online.

Until next time, remember:
