There are plenty of stories about players breaking the bank at posh casinos. Yesterday's story out of Las Vegas was a bit different. This time it wasn't a player with a great run of luck, it was a thief with a bad run of luck.
The Tuesday morning robbery at the glamorous Bellagio casino on the Las Vegas Strip highlights the desperation more than a few people in this country are feeling right now. And, the bandit was nothing, if not bold.
Against long odds, the thief, wearing a black motorcycle jump suit and a full helmet with a visor, managed to walk into the casino and hit a high limit dice game for stacks of chips. A gun was waved at the table, but it's just a rumor that the stickman yelled, "craps - line away, still coming out," which you would hear with a regular shooter.
Now I don't know if the thief was somebody unable to pay his or her bills or whether it was a casino patron with a bad run of luck, but if it's the latter, his luck is still running bad.
During the 30-second robbery, the bandit swept handfuls of chips into a bag, snatching some $100 and $500 chips, but the haul was mostly $25,000 chips. That's bad luck or bad karma. Both I guess.
Cashing in even one $25,000 chip requires a Social Security card and a photo ID. Good luck with that. Regardless of what people think, there just aren't many players running around with $25,000 casino chips in their pockets, and those that are, well, the casino personnel know them. I've got a feeling that if this thief didn't have bad luck, they wouldn't have any luck at all.

Even if there are players that planning in that situation I think there is nothing to do with it because of the social security card in the chips.
