Feeling the Vig

If you make sports wagers you are used to paying a vig or vigorish on your bets. You have to bet $11 to win $10 and get the points right. I'm used to paying the commission, but I still hate it.

On the other hand, I don't mind paying the vig on a craps game. When I buy the 4 or 10 for $20 and get $40 when my number rolls instead of just $36 on a place bet I don't mind paying the buck.

On the other hand, I can't be bothered buying the numbers when I'm pressing my place bets on 5 through 9. I know I can knock the house edge down a little, but it's too much trouble.

When the dice are rolling I love to press the number and it's counterpart. If 9 rolls, I press the 9 and the 5. Sometimes that old five won't roll but once, but by the time it does I've already pressed it two or three times.

As a little reminder, if you do "buy bets" or "lay bets," make sure you know whether you are paying the vig on the bet, or when it pays. Makes a bit difference and I don't like to play where I have to pay - in advance.

Sometimes, depending upon the amount of the bet you want to place, it is better not to pay the vigorish. On a 4 or 10 bet I have found that 9-5 works best below $25.00. From $25.00 and up I pay. I never have paid for the 5 or 9.
I maybe missing something or just satisfied with the 7 to 5 odds.

If you are a “grinder” like myself at the crap table, I have found that a
press / pull on most numbers work best. It seems to make me the most money. This technique keeps me in chips – keeps me coming back.
