This year the weather looks good for a trip to Reno. With Thanksgiving coming there is a great tradition for many families of heading to Reno and Lake Tahoe for some fun instead of standing in line with the Black Friday masses.
I don't blame the shoppers, but I much prefer the gaming tables than the checkout lines, so I say "Go Get'em Gamblers!"
Actually, truth be told, Tahoe might get some snow on the Giving day, so make sure you are prepared. Reno looks clear and 50 degrees.
When Bill Harrah first arrived in Reno during the summer of 1937, he was amazed at the great weather and the crowds in the clubs. After spending his life in California he just didn't anticipate the impact the snowy weather might have on his first "Harrah's Club" in Reno.
Unfortunately the impact was huge. He opened in October and closed before Thanksgiving! Lesson Learned.
Second ChancesWith a little help from new friend and partner Virgil Smith, Harrah opened a new club and soon became a major force in Reno gaming. By the 1940's he had settled on a permanent Reno Harrah's Club and the rest is gaming history.
Weather (that's a pun) you hit South Shore Lake Tahoe or Reno this week, consider that Harrah's casinos have been around longer than any other club in town - because they have the fun figured out! Enjoy.
