The Venetian Resort and Casino

Dateline: 07/25/99

On Saturday July 17th I attended a party for the subscribers of the "Video Poker Players Newsletter. The party was held at the brand new Venetian Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Our gratuitous hosts were kind enough to supply us with a place to meet along with many "extras" to make our visit an enjoyable one.

The Venetian is built on the property where the Sands used to be on the famous Las Vegas Strip. The new mega-resort is truly a work of art modeled after the city of Venice in the 16th century. It even has a canal and gondolas running through the 500,000 sq. ft that is home to the Grand Canal Shoppes. More photos of this resort can be seen in the Venetian Photo Gallery.

The atmosphere and attitude of the personnel in the casino is as unique and refreshing as the resort itself. All players are welcome at the Venetian. Unlike some of the bigger places in town that will not rate a quarter slot or five-dollar table player, the Venetian rates everyone. Every 10 points earned on your players card is worth $1 cashback. While I was there, if you earned 200 points they rewarded you with an additional 50.

I spoke to several of the pit bosses to verify that a five-dollar table player would be rated and was assured that they would be. I even was told that craps players would receive credit for all their bets including the odds bet. While some of the other casinos will credit you for your spread bets, this is the first time I have heard of being credited for the odds bet. I found the dealers to be very friendly and pleasant. They were eager to answers any questions about the games or the casino.

Most of the Blackjack tables were six deck shoe games with good rules including S17, DOA, DAS, LS RA. There are also a few double deck games at the higher limit tables.

Video Poker players will enjoy full pay Jacks or Better or 8/5 Bonus Poker in quarter and dollar denominations. The Venetian has the best video poker on the Las Vegas Strip. "Steve Meyer, Executive Director of Advertising, at The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino explained the Video Poker Selection to the subscribers of "billhere's" Viva Las Vegas Newsletter. Read what he said in the July 21st edition.

The Venetian is a luxury resort with great casino games and a staff that truly cares about the comfort of its guests. If I had to describe the Venetian in one word I think the word "Class" says it best. Stop by and spend some time I'm sure you will enjoy the experience.

Until next time, remember:
"Luck comes and goes...Knowledge stays forever."
