There are two ways to roll a three. The odds are 17 to 1.

On the come out roll the 3 is a natural loser. It is a "crap" number. You lose your pass line bet but still get to roll again.

Did you know that dice are precision instruments manufactured to very strict specifications. They are inspected for any flaws such as nicks of chips before being put in to play. Rubbing them together or other rough handling can damage dice. If the dice are thrown off the table they have to be checked before being put back into play.
